The sermon on the mount presents the way of living rightly before God. Thus the focus is not on the proclamation of the good news of the kingdom, but instruction for those who have already responded to that proclamation. This is for those who now need to be taught what life in the kingdom of heaven is all about. What it means to enter this new relationship, the radical new lifestyle, the principles of the kingdom that must be practiced and obeyed, and what the characteristics are for those who are blessed.
